Mobile Number Portability: How to Switch Networks Easily

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is a free service provided by all major mobile network operators in Nigeria. It removes the stress of informing contacts about a new number. However, please note that any unused airtime or data on your current SIM will be forfeited once the porting process is complete.

How to Port from MTN to Airtel

If you want to join the Airtel network, follow these simple steps:

  • Visit any official Airtel shop or authorized dealer.

  • Download and complete the MNP request form provided at the outlet.

  • Present a valid form of identification, such as a National ID, driver’s license, or international passport.

  • Text “PORT” to 3232 to initiate the process.

  • Receive your new Airtel SIM card and wait for the porting to finalize.

To move your number to the MTN network, follow this procedure:

  • Head to any MTN outlet with your current phone number.

  • Bring a valid ID to verify your identity.

  • Fill out the port-in form provided by the agent.

  • Complete the validation by sending “PORT” to 3232 or by following the IVR voice prompt.

Before you proceed, keep these essential details in mind:

  • You must wait at least 45 days after your last porting request before you can switch again.

  • The porting process typically takes between 15 to 48 hours to complete.

  • Postpaid customers must settle all outstanding bills before their request can be approved.
